This is a really simple concept, but it is often completely overlooked. Make it easy to link to you. Don’t assume that people will come up with the idea of linking to you on their own. Specifically ask them or simply tell them to link to you.
This is what social sharing buttons do on a webpage, and that is precisely why you should include social sharing buttons on most of your webpages. Encourage people to like and share your page. But also include an embed code (such as a trackable short URL like you can get from http://goo.gl ).
If you have created an infographic, a video, a widget or anything that someone might want to use on their site… provide them an embed code so that they can easily add your awesome content to their own webpage and make sure the embed code contains a link back to your site.
Be careful about openly incentivizing people to link to you or requiring people to link to you in order to receive something of value as that is against Google’s guidelines. However, you can certainly give something away and ASK (not require) people to link to you.
Or, allow people to set up their own page and run some sort of contest making it clear that whoever promotes their page the most has a better chance at winning.
Just like you would use a call to action in any advertising or promotional materials, go ahead and use a call to action encouraging people to spread your content.
Remember, Remind People And Make It Easy To
Link To Your Content!
Next The next thing we have to talk about it getting over any shyness that you may feel when promoting your business to people who already know you. This is especially true for getting new websites off the ground.
