The presence of errors in the code of your webpage may or may not be a direct ranking factor in Google’s algorithm, depending on the nature of the error. If the error prevents search spiders from crawling or indexing your content, or if your code is not properly nested and it is difficult for the spiders to understand how to properly categorize your content, then that can hurt your SEO. In the spirit of doing everything you can to help search engines give your site top search rankings, make sure that the code behind your pages is valid and error free by testing your pages through the W3C HTML and CSS validators.

These validators will provide you with a list of errors on any page, giving you the ability to jump in and address them.
