Good Optimization Creates the Best User Experience
The single most important thing to keep in mind when creating content for the web is the user experience. Will the content address the questions, concerns and curiosities of the user? Will the content provide an in depth and insightful exploration of the subject matter that is both informative and compelling. Will the content both educate and motivate the user to take the desired action? You must always remember that the ultimate goal is to find the user, wherever they are at (mentally) and to create content that will lead them to where you want them to go (conversion). Optimizing content is not just about getting it to rank, but to ensure that everything is designed to help the user have an experience that will lead them to your goals.
If you are creating content just for SEO purposes… stop right now, look in the mirror, slap yourself hard and say “NO! Don’t do that! No!”. But seriously, optimizing content is about using the all of the SEO criteria as an outline, and then filling in that outline with words that will delight your readers and compel them to take the desired action.
Create Remarkable Content
This is a subject that can be summarized in just a few words, and can also be endlessly discussed. In the end, this is the difference between content that either builds or fades over time.
- Is your content remarkable?
- Are you presenting new information?
- Do you have an interesting point of view?
- Is your content entertaining?
Most of the time it is not enough just to be informative… the entire internet is full of information that no one cares about.
- Will your content make them care? Why?
There are some companies and bloggers that are pretty terrible at all of this SEO stuff, and yet continue to be successful. Why? How? It is because they have a knack for creating remarkable content. Stuff that people love and love to share.
Make your audience care and encourage them to share. Make your content remarkable.
